Privacy policy

Meymi is a mobile application that publishes recipes, cooking videos and the cultural history behind dishes from Africa, the Mediterranean and Asia. For questions about this policy, write to hello@meymi.app.

Your account, which comes from however you signed in:

• Your email address, name and profile photo, as supplied by Google, Apple or by you when you sign up with an email address.
• The language you chose, so the app and any notification we send are in it.
• If you sign up as a chef: your chef name, handle, biography and the country you cook from.

What you do in the app:

• Recipes and reels you publish, photos and comments you post, and the groups you join.
• What you save, like and follow, so the app can show it back to you.
• Reports you file and accounts you block.

Technical information:

• A device token, if you allow push notifications, so we can send them.
• Basic request logs including an IP address, kept briefly and used to keep the service running and to investigate abuse.
• Your subscription status, received from Apple or Google through RevenueCat.

We do not collect contacts, precise location, or your browsing outside the app, and we do not run advertising trackers.

We use a small number of services to run Meymi. Each one sees only what it needs to do its job.

• Clerk handles sign in. Your password, if you use one, is theirs and never reaches us.
• RevenueCat handles subscriptions on top of the App Store and Google Play. Card details go to Apple or Google, never to us.
• Cloudflare R2 stores photos and video.
• Expo delivers push notifications.
• Our own servers store everything else.

We process your account and content because we need to in order to give you the service you asked for. We process reports, blocks and moderation records because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the app usable and in meeting our obligations as a platform. We send push notifications only if you allow them, and you can withdraw that at any time in your device settings.

Your account and content stay while your account exists. When you delete your account, we disable it immediately and clear your name, email and photo on the spot. The remaining record is erased thirty days later, which gives support a window to reverse an accidental deletion and gives moderation a subject if something you posted is still being reviewed.

Moderation records are kept longer than the content they refer to, because a record of a decision is not much use once its subject is gone.

• Delete your account from Settings inside the app. It takes effect at once and needs no email to us.
• Block any account, which hides their content from you and yours from them.
• Report any recipe, reel, comment, post or account.
• Change your language, and turn push notifications off in your device settings.
• Ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, by writing to the address above.

Meymi is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has an account, write to us and we will remove it.

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the app rather than quietly updating the date at the top of this page.
